Chillin like a Fox
Today was an all day hike on Fox Glacier, named after Sir Fox, former Premier of NZ. New Zealand is the only place outside of Argentina where glaciers come right into rain forest. The hike ended up taking about an hour and a half longer due to a couple of reasons: a slow family taking a lot of pictures and video as well as parts of the path needing to be re-cut due to a lot of rain and no groups going up recently. It wasn't as cold as I thought it would be, though it certainly wasn't warm. we spent about five and a half hours on the ice. It was fun, and something I'd like to do in the future though without a guide. I think it'd be fun to have my own boots (which are sadly at home for a couple reasons) and hike with a few friends where we wanted instead of the slow going with a guide. Time's up, so I'll cut this short.

Hey Jon, sounds awesome. Send me some email when you get a chance. Isn't it cool walking around on a glacier, knowing every day it is different than the last.
This is like the coolest picture of you ever! xoxoxo
And wow...Josh and I commented at the EXACT SAME TIME!
Josh: It was pretty cool except that it was such slow moving. A lot of it was because no one had been on for a day or two because of the heavy rain, so it was a lot different than it had been before. It was a really cool experience and something I'd like to do sometime with more freedom.
Claire: I meant to put a different one on - one that's probably even cooler!
I'm lovin' the pics! It's fun to see YOU! :-) Man, what memorable experiences! The horse ride through LotR scenery . . . and on a Narnia (I think you said) horse! And hiking a glacier! Amazing. I'm so excited for you. Thanks for conitinuing to post. Keep 'em coming, when you can! :-) XOXOX
At least you didn't fall into a crevasse and disappear! Looks fun. Were there lots of little cave like things like the one you were in? Did they tell you to be careful because of cracks or anything? Did you drink water melting from the glacier? Glad you still have time to post some pics. I'm always glad to see them!
There were a few caves they led us through. We went through two little tunnels and then htere was one that we could rappel down that was maybe 8 feet deep or so. I meant to put up a picture of that last one, but mistook this picture for that in the thumbnails. They had us be rather careful - they led us pretty line and file across the glacier. I had some glacier water at a bus stop before the glacier actually, but not at the glacier itself.
