Today Josh and I went bungy jumping at the first bungy site in the world. It was exciting and there was a second standing here that I definitely thought it was a bad idea! The first second falling was definitely not the best feeling ever.

Fun days around Queenstown
I spent Monday and Tuesday snowboarding with Josh, Beth, and some of their friends. I was making good progress. I either bruised my rib pretty badly or fractured it. Not much I can do about that, though.

Hahaha, oh wow, you are a braver soul than I am! It does kind of look like fun though...I'm glad Beth was there for photo documentation of the event. You look very professional snowboarding...and even bungee jumping...but I can still tell that it's you! I guess that's natural after spending so much time with someone for the past five years. I love you...I'm glad you're having so much fun. :)
Wow. Just wow! I cannot imagine snowboarding. If I snowboarded, I think I would cry. Do you happen to see from my first comment awhile back and this one that I have a crying theme for when I'm out of my comfort zone?! This is a standing joke between Bill and me. I have a feeling you will be doing many things that I think look so exciting and/or interesting that I would just be too in-my-comfort-zone to ever do. But, it is fun "living" those experiences through you.
Now, the jumping is just awesome. As, in really, I'm full of awe. Just the idea of it. AND, that you have such a cool photo of it. It is just so descriptive and seeing it lets me almost be there with you.
Amazing! The snowboarding must have been lots of fun--and so refreshing. The bungee jumping just sounds so scary! I'm glad you and Josh have had that experience.
so you broke your rib and then the next day you went bungee jumping? Sounds great! How far was the jump? Did it feel like it was going to jerk your legs off? And how did your rib feel??? Glad you're doing fun things and I'm not there to see it! ;^) You looked great at the snowboarding! Glad you went and hope you can go more!!
YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW FUN to look at the photos!!! (Good job, Beth!!!) That has got to be one of the coolest (if not coolest) birthday presents in the entire world! Bungee jumping from the first bungee-jumping place ever! And why am I not surprised?!? ;-) I love that quality--whatever you call it--in my sons! (I think I'm glad I didn't know about it ahead of time, though. ;-)) Way to think up an awesome idea, Josh, and way to accept the challenge, Gunder! And how awesome that you got to experience it together! Dad is right--you will *never* forget it! I could genuinely rave on and on, but I better scoot, as I'm on Lakes Library time. Love you both! And so glad you're safe and together! :-)
I'm looking at the pics again. Every time I see the bungee jumping ones, I just laugh and shake my head. And smile. :-) You guys rule! XOXOX
Who went first?!? And how did that make the second person feel before jumping?!?
Sorry for the short details on the post. I didn't have a lot of time and just wanted to get something in.
We were snowboarding on Coronet peak. We stopped off early the first day to get me some gear in town since I obviously didn't come packing a board. The drive up was about half an hour.
Beth had gotten a free learner's lesson from the ski instructors but never used it, so I inherited it and relearned the basics as I'd not been on a board for about eight years. After that I spent my time on the bunny slopes for the rest of the day and the first half the second day. On the second day, I was going down a rather steep bunny hill and my board caught a chunk of ice or something on the edge of the hill, and I flipped over pretty badly. Right behind me came a skier who accidentally whacked me in the head with his ski pole.
After noon on the second day, I got a half day pass and rode the lift up to my first hill in years. It was there that I took some spectacular falls. I think my rib is feeling better, so I'm hoping it's just a deep intercostal bruise. I made significant progress on the hills and was feeling pretty good about my ability if not my aching body.
Yesterday was the bungy jumping. It was my birthday present from Josh and he gave me a choice of jumps - the first bungy (43m) and another which was 140m, I think. I elected for the first bungy jump in the world, Kawarauo. There was a point, standing on the edge, where both Josh and I wondered what we were thinking, but we just had to jump before we could convince ourselves not to. The first few seconds were a bit nervous until you got low enough that you felt the bungy cord pull on your feet and you knew something was holding you. After that you bounced in the air a few more times which was fun because you felt safer and had more time to appreciate what was going on.
Louise: Snowboarding is definitely one of those things that you have to really want to do because the first couple of days can be really painful! The jump was awesome, and I'm really glad Beth was there to take great pictures - the photo package was $45 for three pictures!
Clara: The snowboarding was exhilarating. Just being on the mountains with such a gorgeous view and the crisp air was awesome.
Dad: It was either a deep bruise or a fracture, not an outright break, I don't think. But, yeah, the next day was bungy jumping. They had a list of standard health problems you couldn't have, so I just skipped over it and said I was alright. They put a big towel around my legs and then a strap around that so it wasn't too rough on my legs. It was weird hanging when the rope was kinda popping a little from stretching and my leg was twitching. I didn't feel super comfortable then. My rib was fine; I think the adrenaline might have washed out any pain I would have felt anyway.
Mom: I was going to go first, but they ended up sending Josh first. I'm not sure his success changed m mood any; I was still really nervous looking over the edge!
Grrr! I just wrote a comment and lost it! But mostly I wanted to let you know Grandpa tried to comment last night, with Dad's help, and they ran into some glitch. But he is happy for you and thinking of you! Have a blast traveling around with Josh! That's gotta be about the best of the best--two bros road tripping around southern NZ! And in snow in August, no less! Dad and I are gonna head home tomorrow, stopping at Agnes' on the way. We're excited for you! Throw a few snowballs at each other for us! LOVE YOU BOTH! :-) XOXOX Mum
