I have 10 minutes left before the bus leaves, and I have yet to grab food, but thought I'd update you to let you know I'm alive.
Perhaps the best news I have is that the Tigers are percentage points ahead of Boston for the best record in MLB.
Other than that, it's the usual here, I'm alive and travelling relatively alone. I got into Auckland around 6 (out of the airport, that is). Got to the city at 7ish, and grabbed a snack and chai latte in a cafe. Hopped on a bus and met a girl from Auckland travelling to Wellington to visit family. She showed me a wee bit of Rotorua where I am now. They have "balls" courts. Old people play it and it sounds kindof similar in strategy to curling, but on grass.
I should go, grab food and get on my bus. I love you all.

Great!!! You made it! And earlier than I computed it would be. Awesome to hear from you so soon! Hope you have time to tell us more about your trip before long. Enjoy the bus ride!!
Love you!
SOOOOOO GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU!!! :-) :-) :-) I've been thinking about you all day! Strange to go to bed and wake up, knowing you're **still** in the air! I'm watching the Tigs and doing laundry. Miller's doing well, holding 'em to 0 through the 5th. Santana took something like 14 or 15 pitches to finally get Guillen out. Was fun to watch the duel. THANK YOU SO MUCH for writing so soon! XOXOXO
Oh Brock Hutchinson...haha, I love it. I'm really glad that you are FINALLY in New Zealand, and that you arrived safely. And you already made a new friend, which is nice, even if she may be just a single serving friend, as the great Edward Norton would say. I'm very excited to read of your adventures. As I was reading your blog/e-mail, Magglio Ordonez hit a home run. I think you brought luck to the game, even from across the ocean. Bottom of the 6th, and they are winning 3 to 1. Anyway, I love you very very much. I know you'll have an amazing time.
Hi Jon,
Wow-wee-kazoweeeeee! You are there. I cannot imagine traveling for such a long time. And, I think I would cry if I had to do it by myself!
I'll be looking forward to more of your blog.
Maybe I could start a blog and post a picture of me vacuuming or something like that and we could compare who's having a more picturesque time! (Yes, I'm a sister of your mom. I know you can't tell by my humor!)
jon sweet! really glad you are in the country alreaady. just a few hundred miles away. looking forward to seeing you soon. did you get to see any steaming hot pools in rotorua? and what is brock hutchinson.
i want to see the vacuum blog!
Dad: I think the flight was more in the 12-14 hour range rather than the 19 I had thought earlier. I couldn't find that number anywhere, so I don't know how it got in my head.
Mom: Wow, wish I could've seen that duel between Santana and Guillen - must've been cool :).
Claire: I actually did look at the in-flight pamphlets and remarked about the baby smiling as it's life jacket was inflated in the middle of the ocean. Glad to see the Tigs pulled out the win and that the bullpen was able to do as well as they did.
Louise: I'm with Josh; you definitely should start a photoblog of you vacuuming. I'm sure it'd be spellbinding :).
Josh: Yeah, I saw some of the steam pools in Rotorua. Did you see the balls courts there? I guess it's an old people game that sounds kindof like shufflboard which is kindof like curling. As to Brock Hutchinson, I came up with it a few days ago as just a dumb American pseudonym. I think it derives partly from The Rock.
Haven't heard it calld "balls" but I know what you are talking about. They call it bowling. They have them all over the place.
Hi Jon!! Got your blog address from your dad today. I knew you were going to NZ, but not sure when. How exciting for you!! It will be so fun for you to meet up with Josh and have a tour guide for awhile. I'm excited for both of you and know you'll love it. I'm proud that you are getting where you need to go by yourself --a big undertaking half way around the world. Enjoy!!
Hello, Jon!
Hal and I are at Okoboji and I'm checking e-mail at the Milford library. Your blog is great! I've enjoyed what you've written and will check again when we get back to Omaha. Have a great month in NZ.
